About the project
Thanks to the World Monuments Fund gargoyles have been re-carved, stonework restored or replaced in the worst affected areas, and stained glass windows have been re-glazed. Most importantly, the abbey has been made safe. The works were prioritised by the project architect and roughly scheduled at one major phase per year. The 7th project is due for completion next year
Phase 3 and 4 of the programme focused their attention on the exterior of the east end and the south choir, carrying out glazing and masonry repairs. Phase 3 included the repair and conservation of the surviving gargoyle on the eastern buttress of the abbey in 2004.

Detailed conservation of our famous 14th century Jesse Window was carried out as part of phase 4.
A major undertaking, the window was removed piece by piece and painstakingly restored
